With more than 120 signatures and 20 companies and institutions already involved, Ushuaia Eco Pledge is moving forward as a key initiative to position the End of the World as a benchmark for sustainable tourism and environmental commitment

Ushuaia Eco Pledge continues to consolidate as a strategic initiative that connects tourism, sustainability, and the active participation of the tourism sector, with a central goal to position Ushuaia as a destination committed to environmental protection and responsible tourism,, strengthening its identity and competitiveness both nationally and internationally. In this first stage, the focus is placed on reducing the destination’s Plastic Footprint.

To date more than 120 people from different parts of the world have already signed the Ushuaia Eco Pledge, reflecting a tangible response from travelers who choose the End of the World and seek experiences aligned with sustainability and respect for nature. Of the total signatures, 46% correspond to visitors from Argentina,, and this initial progress is already translating into measurable impact: an estimated reduction of 150 kg of single use plastics avoided so far this season.

The growing number of signatures shows that visitors not only want to experience Ushuaia, but also to protect it. Ushuaia Eco Pledge is a concrete tool to channel that commitment and turn it into action.

In parallel, the campaign continues to gain support from the tourism sector. Currently, 10  empresas e instituciones —including accommodations, travel agencies, and national and international tour operators— Hotel Los Cauquenes, Hotel Tierra de Leyendas, Latitud Ushuaia, Yerska Travel, Omora Nature, Patagon Mountain Agency, Inside Patagonia, Centro Cerro Martial, Hotel Cumbres del Martial, and Hotel Altos de Ushuaia— are already part of Ushuaia Eco Pledge, 10  nuevas empresas , are currently in the process of joining.

Ushuaia Eco Pledge is supported by official sponsors who actively promote the initiative: Tierra de Leyendas Boutique Hotel, Laguna Escondida, and Far Corners, along with the endorsement of institutions such as the National University of Tierra del Fuego (UNTDF),, the Hotel Chamber, and the Fueguian Tourism Institute (INFUETUR)..

Just a few months after its official launch last September at the International Tourism Fair, the initiative was honored with the Finnova 2026 Award at the Antarctic Congress in December and declared of Provincial Tourism Interest in January by the Province of Tierra del Fuego (INFUETUR)—recognitions that strengthen its institutional legitimacy and its value as an innovative tool for sustainable tourism development.

In today’s tourism landscape, sustainability has become a central component of destination competitiveness. It is no longer merely a trend, but a concrete criterion that influences the choices of travelers, operators, and global companies. Numerous studies show that a growing proportion of tourists prioritize destinations with visible environmental commitments and verifiable actions: in Europe, for example, international research estimates that nearly 40% of travelers consider sustainability a relevant factor when planning their trips. This expectation is especially significant in sectors such as cruise tourism, where international companies have increasingly begun to assess destinations based on their environmental standards, promoting responsible tourism programs and lower-impact excursions. At the same time, leading destinations worldwide—such as the Galápagos—have advanced regulations and active policies to protect unique ecosystems, recognizing that environmental care is an essential part of their tourism brand. In this context, Ushuaia Eco Pledge is consolidating as a concrete and strategic action for the Ushuaia brand: a tool that translates sustainable commitment into a true competitive advantage, strengthening the destination’s international positioning and aligning it with the new demands of global tourism

Each company that joins understands that a destination’s positioning is built collectively. This is not only an environmental action, but a strategic decision that impacts the quality of tourism we want for Ushuaia.
